Buxton Remembrance Day 2014
In Association with The Royal British Legion
Buxton Branch
Derbyshire

On Saturday 25 October 2014 I was at Buxton, Derbyshire, to take part in the launch of the 2014 Poppy Appeal by the Buxton Branch of The Royal British Legion.

The event took the form of a mini Military Tattoo at Turners Memorial, below the town's War Memorial.

Although it was raining when the event started at 11:00 a moderate audience gathered to watch the proceedings, and the rain soon stopped.

The first poppy was purchased by the celebrity guest - 2012 Paralympic Gold Medallist Anthony Kappes. Further poppies were then purchased by the local MP, the Mayor of High Peak, and members of High Peak Council.

A large poppy was also placed on a vehicle belonging to Bradburys Cheese, a major supporter of the 2014 Poppy Appeal.

Members of the public were entertained by The Burbridge Band who played a selection of music from the WW1 era, and "Four to the Bar" who sang songs from the period.

2517 (Buxton) Squadron Air Training Corps - Corps of Drums also gave a performance.

The event concluded with a Tribute to a WW1 soldier - I represented a WW1 soldier, and was presented with a Poppy by Charlotte Howard - a local schoolgirl who had won a competition to design the event poster.
